My round-up of news, events and stuff and nonsense from the last days.
If it’s news to me, it must be news to you!‘

Birthday of the week: The longest-running weekly comic in the world celebrated its 80th birthday this week. And if you were to read a different issue every day it would take you more than ten years to get through them.

Progressive of the week: Tory MP David Campbell Bannerman has demanded that Remainers should be tried under the 1351 Treason Act for ‘excessive EU loyalty’.

Case closed: As I reported in March, the mystery of the disappearance of Amelia Earhart and her navigator 81 years ago has been solved with proof that they crash-landed on a remote South Pacific island.

Something fishy: Thieves stole a shark from the San Antonio Aquarium and smuggled it out disguised as a baby in a buggy.

Dead end: A funeral comparison website has had its ‘edgy’ advertising campaign banned by Transport For London such as the one on the right showing a couple running along a beach with coffin lids instead of surfboards.

Jumble sale: Following the American embassy’s move from Grosvenor Square to central London you can bid for items the diplomats no longer need including 1,200 loo rolls, a circular saw and a Volvo S80.

Interbreeding: Scientists have discovered a dolphin-whale hybrid off Kauai, Hawaii.

Dogsbody: A Colombian drugs gang has put a $70,000 bounty on the head of a sniffer dog after she found almost 10 tonnes of the gang’s cocaine.

Germ of an idea: American states all have official birds, flowers and songs but New Jersey has gone a step further and adopted an official state microbe.

Ducks in a row: A mother duck went viral after being pictured swimming across a lake with seventy-six ducklings paddling along behind her.

Brief lives: Designer of the Ford Ka Chris Svensson; Mick Jagger’s 60s style guru Christopher Gibbs; fight choreographer William Hobbs; capsize survivor Tony Bullimore and; actor Bernard Hepton who starred in Colditz, I, Claudius and both Smiley’s People and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.
